Embassy of Pakistan, Cairo organized a seminar on Kashmir Solidarity Day today. During the
Seminar, messages of solidarity by the President, the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime
Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out.
A documentary highlighting the plight of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu &
Kashmir (IIOJ&K), Indian security forces brutalities and pledges of international community
towards realization of Kashmiris’ inalienable right to self-determination was played. A minute
of silence was observed for the martyrs of IIOJ&K and Gaza as well.
The panellists at the event delivered separate yet equally compelling presentations,
underscoring their collective solidarity with the innocent people of Indian Illegally Occupied
Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K), who they noted have endured decades of Indian state
oppression. They reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir remains a disputed territory and
emphasized that the future of the Kashmiri people must be decided in line with the wishes and
aspirations of Kashmiris, as envisioned in the relevant United Nations Security Council
(UNSC) resolutions.
The speakers expressed serious concern over India’s unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August
2019, which resulted in the revocation of the occupied territory’s special status. They strongly
criticized ongoing efforts to alter the demographic structure of IIOJ&K, warning that such
measures are aimed at reducing Kashmiris to a minority in their own homeland.
Calling for urgent global attention, the panellists urged the international community to
intervene without delay, press India to end human rights violations, ensure implementation of
UNSC resolutions, and facilitate an impartial plebiscite under UN auspices to allow Kashmiris
to determine their own destiny.
Ambassador Aamir Shoukat in his remarks said that durable peace in South Asia cannot be
achieved without the peaceful resolution of Jammu & Kashmir dispute. He reiterated Pakistan’s
unflinching moral, diplomatic and political support to the people of IIOJ&K for their rightful
cause of self-determination.
A large number of Egyptian academia, intellectuals, journalists, civil society activists, students
and members of Pakistan community in Egypt attended the event.
